Westinghouse-based carbon hairpin filament lamp

Westinghouse-based carbon hairpin filament lamp

Voltage- ~60v
Wattage/rating- ?
Filament- Carbon, Hairpin
Cap type- Westinghouse type
Circa- 1900s
Finish- Clear glass
Origin- USA

This carbon lamp has a single U-shaped hairpin filament. It is quite thick, and rated at about 60v- a voltage sometimes used by buildings that generated their own power- in the early days before nationalised power distribution was widespread. The base is a quite scarce Westinghouse type- these were unusual in that they simply pushed into the sockets and sprung clips held onto the ridges keeping them in place. Westinghouse-based bulbs are very desirable to us collectors, and the sockets even more so. I have not yet got hold of a Westinghouse socket but am still on the lookout.

Shown here lit on about 50 volts, and because of the lack of a proper socket, I improvised electrical connections to do so (not shown, thankfully!).
