These MR16 lamps are a different variation of the more common dichroic types that are very popular these days. The trouble with dichroic lamps is that when they are used in fixtures with the lamp exposed, there is a lot of light that shines out of the sides and back which some people may find anoying or distracting. So these lamps were produced by German company BLV. They are not dichroic types that have a cool beam- the reflective coating is aluminium so all the heat goes forward with the beam, however they have thick coatings on the backs that block all rearward light. This reduces glare and makes them attractive to look at too. They are avaliable in silver and black as shown here, and also in gold though I don`t have one of them yet. I believe they are no longer produced but stocks of them are still avaliable, it`s just a case of looking hard enough. They cost many times more than dichroic types and as a result probably don`t sell well so this may be the reason why production may have ceased.
